Emboldening Iran

What a mess.

When I first heard about Iran sending the Brits the map location on where their boat was at the time of capture, I felt relieved.  Based on GPS information, That put them in Iraq waters.  Then Iran sent them an 'updated' map showing the boat in Iranian waters.  I guess I should have figured Tony Blair would hurry up and deploy diplomacy.  I expected this to last over 400 days (just like under Carter's regime).  Then I heard about Ahmadinejad announcing how he is pardoning and releasing the troops.  I guess that makes him a decent and kind man.  Someone who can forgive international accidents.  Someone who can be negotiated with.

Someone who doesn't want to get his incoming gasoline supply cutoff.

I hope the world pays close attention to the details of this incident.  This doesn't change anything.  Iran still wants nuclear weapons.  They still aren't complying with the U.N.  They are still providing terrorists and weapons in Iraq.  Tony Blair will say what he needs to say in order to leave office looking good along with his party.  Iran better be carefull.  The next boat load of soldiers could belong to the U.S.

Hamid Karzai Speaks Out

During Bush's press conference today with Hamid Karzai, a reporter asked President Bush about the recently leaked national intelligence assessment and how it shows that going into Iraq was a mistake.  Bush responded saying it was naive to think that going into Iraq has made terrorism worse.

''Some people have guessed what's in the report and concluded that going into Iraq was a mistake. I strongly disagree,'' Bush said.

What was more profound was when Bush gave Karzai a chance to respond.

KARZAI: Ma'am, before I go to the remarks by my brother, President Musharraf, terrorism was hurting us way before Iraq or September 11. The president mentioned some examples of it.

These extremist forces were killing people in Afghanistan and around for years, closing schools, burning mosques, killing children, uprooting vineyards with vine trees, grapes hanging on them, forcing populations to poverty and misery.

They came to America on September 11, but they were attacking you before September 11 in other parts of the world.

We are a witness in Afghanistan as to what they are and how they can hurt. You are a witness in New York.

Do you forget people jumping off the 80th floor or 70th floor when the planes hit them? Can you imagine what it will be for a man or a woman to jump off that high?

Who did that? And where are they now? And how do we fight them, how do we get rid of them, other than going after them? Should we wait for them to come and kill us again?

That's why we need more action around the world, in Afghanistan and elsewhere, to get them defeated. Extremism, their allies, terrorists and the likes of them.

It amazes me how the media will insult our president by calling him a liar and an idiot even when leaders from other countries come over here and praise Bush and his actions and how they need American troops in their countries to help defeat terrorists.

AZ 9/11 Memorial

Mary Katharine Ham already had a great write-up on this topic yesterday:

From a local resident's perspective, I'm more concerned about Janet Napolitano being reelected as Governor.  This memorial is another example of how she strong-arms the government to get what she wants.  None of the local TV news stations showed what was printed on the memorial.  Getting her anti-war message onto a memorial that is meant to recognize the people who died on 9/11 is a back handed slap in the face of Arizona residents.  I guess she would be ok if her tombstone read "Here lies Janet Napolitano.  She wasn't a very good Governor, but she was governor nonetheless".  This reminds me of her changing the name of a local mountain and expressway after a fallen soldier without waiting the 5 year grace period after the person has died:

I encourage everyone to check out a great conservative running against her:
